Diwali is the festival of lights. It means, “An Array of lamps”.

Of all the festivals celebrated in India, Diwali is the most glamorous one. On the 13th day of the dark fortnight of the month of Ashwin (October / November), after 20 days of Dusshera, this festival of lights, is usually celebrated. Though there are many stories behind the origin of Diwali, all of them share a common essence of, Victory of Good over evil.

The current monarch is Queen Elizabeth II, she was born on April 21, 1926, so the date does not follow the exact date of the birth of the Queen, and it is celebrated in different dates in other Commonwealth nations.

Constitution Day is celebrated by Fiji.

Fiji, an ex British territory, is now a self governing democratic state. It turned into a Republic in 1987. The Fiji Constitution Day celebration in Fiji takes place on July 27 every year until 2009 when it was abolished by President Josefa Iloilo. It also was not in effect after the 2000 Fijian coup defeat followed by Commodore Frank Bainimarama. It is the third Constitution of Fiji. The first was adopted in 1970 after the freedom and soon cancelled due to two military coups in 1987.

In honor of the country’s first modern statesman, Fiji marks the last Monday or Friday of May as Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna Day.

Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna is a known pubic figure in Fiji. He is a true Fijian leader, statesman, scholar, and soldier. He initiated the establishment of powerful government institutions in Fiji which laid the groundwork for the country’s declaration to self-rule in 1970 from the United Kingdom. His vision formed the basis of the country’s economic course until today.
