Greek Cypriot Day is celebrated as a public holiday in Cyprus

Every year during the 1st of April, Cyprus commemorates the Greek Cypriot National Day or EOKA in memory of the establishment of the National Organization of the Cypriot Struggle known as EOKA (Ethniki Organosis Kyprion Agoniston).

EOKA aimed to fight for the country’s independence against the British colonies on 1955 and its union with Greece.

Every year on the 31st of March, the people of Malta celebrate the anniversary withdrawal of British troops from the country on March 31, 1979. Freedom Day is locally known in Malta as Jum il-Ħelsien.

The British Summer Time (BST): UK’s Daylight Saving Time (DST)

In contrast with the US and Canada where their clocks are adjusted one hour forward on the second week of March and reverted back to the standard time on the first week of November, UK observes British Summer Time (BST) by putting their timepieces an hour forward the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) beginning on the last Sunday of March until the last Sunday of the month of October of the same year.

Daylight Saving Time (DST) the equivalent of BST in the US. Changes to official timepieces in UK are done on 1 am GMT.

Greece celebrates the anniversary of its independence every year on the 25th of March against the more than 400-year rule of Ottoman Empire which occurred between 1821 and 1829. The Liberation was not attained until 1832 during the Conference of London as convened by three European powers that helped Greece obtain its independence.
