Guyana celebrates Freedom Day as a public holiday.

Guyana has Atlantic Ocean, Suriname, Venezuela and Brazil covering four of its sides. It was originally a home of the Amerindians. However, Dutch annexed it in the 16th century and then it was juggled between the Dutch, French and British from the second part of the 16th to the 19th century. It was finally captured by Britain in 1814. Guyana earned freedom in 1966. May 26, 1966 marks the date of the state’s independence from colonialism, whereas the freedom day is celebrated on August 1 every year. This year, since August 1 is on a Saturday, Monday, August 3 is celebrated.
