The Birth of the Prophet is the remembrance of the birth of the prophet Muhammad. It is mostly known as Mawlid, a generic term used for the birthday of a religious figure, and that means to give birth or bear a child. It is celebrated on the third month of the Islamic calendar, the Rabi’ al-awwal.

Every year, Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th day of the month of Dhul Hijja of the lunar Islamic calendar. The observance on the Gregorian calendar changes from year to year, being celebrated from November 27 to November 30 in 2009. It is the Festival of Sacrifice, or the Greater Eid, that commemorates the faith and obedience of Abraham to sacrifice Ishmael, his son, as requested by God.

Ramadan is an Islamic observance during the whole of the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is the Islamic month of fasting. Ramadan is also known as Ramzan.

The ninth month of the Islamic calendar is known as Ramadan from the Arabic root ar-ramad denoting intense heat. Fasting, prayers, charity, and self-accountability are expected to be followed during this time. The whole month is fully dedicated for associated religious observances. During Ramadan no food or drink of any sort is consumed after true dawn until sunset.
