Ireland Bank Holiday History
The holiday has a history to it. The Bank of England before 1834 observed thirty three saints days, but after 1834, they reduced these days to just four. However, Sir John Lubbock in 1871 introduced a Bank Legislation Act according to which the Bank were allowed to observe holidays on different days, the list of which was passed after close inspection of the house of the Lords.
Sir John was a great cricket enthusiast and thus made space and compulsory to play cricket in the English outdoors. However, the province of Ireland was treated differently and the list was also different due to different culture of then province. As such, they have their New Years Holidays more important as to the Summer Holidays.
Ireland Bank Holiday Traditions and Activities
In the Republic of Ireland, the Good Friday is not treated as a national holiday, though banks as well as public institutions are closed on this day. Bank Holiday is used a colloquially to the public holiday in the country of Ireland.
During Bank Holiday, the working officials are entitled to spend that day as a holiday, but it is not mandatory to observe that days as a holiday. They may also work on that day and then rewarded with extra pay only for this day. The Summer Bank Holidays are nowadays celebrated on the first Monday of August rather the manner in which it was celebrated on the last Monday of the same month. June Bank Holidays has taken the place of Spring Bank Holidays
Though the history of the Bank Holiday is an interesting one, Ireland had not basically implemented it as a national holiday. Thus, it is only celebrated as a public holiday. The people all over the world think that on Bank Holiday, no one works. However, this is not the case as for extra money, they do.
The Banks also observe a closing ceremony of the economic year in some countries of the world. Usually, these countries are found in the continent of Asia. Furthermore, the Republic of Ireland has rich culture and it is also celebrated as the same closing ceremony of the economic year of the Bank, which are located in different area of the country. The banks then publish their gain and losses in the different national newspaper of the countries.
The people as well as the Bank holidays in the countries are closely related and share a common enthusiasm. From a long time, this relation has been their and will be their in the future. Though the holidays are not a national holiday, yet they have created a sense, which has allowed the day to be treated as the same.
The working officials of the bank celebrate this day with great zest and vigor. They dress themselves in great attire and converse among themselves the problems and the conditions of work and make acts to improve it further.
