It also has the world’s largest forest reserves, and its lakes contain approximately one-quarter of the world’s unfrozen fresh water. Of its many holidays, October Revolution is a holiday that is celebrated in Russia as a day of remembrance, pride, joy, and strength of the Russian culture.

History of the October Revolution

The October Revolution (sometimes referred to as the Soviet Revolution or Bolshevik Revolution) was a political revolution that began with an armed insurrection on October 25, 1917. It was the second phase of the Russian Revolution of 1917, beginning in February of 1917. The October Revolution overthrew the Russian Provisional Government and gave the power to the Soviets dominated by the Bolsheviks. It was then followed by the Russian Civil War (1917–1922) and the creation of the Soviet Union in 1922.

During 1917, A nationwide crisis had developed in Russia affecting social, economic, and political relations. The policies of the Provisional Government had brought the country to the state of catastrophe. Disorder in industry and transport had increased, and difficulties in obtaining provisions had intensified. Gross industrial production in 1917 had decreased by over 36 percent from the prior year, and the wages of the workers fell about 50 percent from what they had been in 1913. Also, approximately 50 percent of all enterprises were closed down in the industrial centers, leading to mass unemployment. All were severe issues because even though the economy was suffering and people were no working, the cost of living had increased sharply. Russia’s national debt in October 1917 had risen to 50 billion rubles. Of this, debts to foreign governments constituted more than 11 billion rubles. The country faced the threat of financial bankruptcy.

In October, after many strikes of the workers and uprisings against landowners, a conspiracy was planned against the government. The people of Russia started working to increase its popularity with the Bolsheviks, which was the democratic labor party of Russia. It was then that things started to change for the better in Russia. The term Red October is what is used to describe the events of the month.
