Constitution Day is the day celebrated to show respect and honor to the constitution of the country. This is celebrated annually once a year on the day when the constitution of the country is made or when any change has occurred in the monarchy of the constitution. Constitution Day of Puerto Rico is celebrated on July 25.

Puerto Rico Constitution Day History

Every country has got its constitution and fundamental rights of the individuals are embedded in those constitution. The constitution of Puerto Rico consists of basically nine articles. Being a part of commonwealth of United States, its constitution is forced to stick to the postulates of the U.S. constitution.

The constitution was headed towards the government on March 3, 1952 and the whole process took few months and on July 25, it was made effective and the day came to be known as Commonwealth Constitution Day in the history of Puerto Rico.

Constitution Day is celebrated in Palau.

Palau adopted its constitution in 1981 and establish a government based on the goveernment of the USA. Since 1359, 137 Presidents have governed Palau.

Palau Constitution Day History

Palau was settled by people who landed there for over 3000 years. During the 15th century, Spain took dominion over the land and took the land under their control. In 1977, democracy was restored to Palau.

The Republic of Palau is a scattered group of islands in the westernmost part of Micronesia. The country’s territory includes some 340 islands east of the Philippines that stretch out over an area 125 miles in length. The total land area of the islands is 170 square miles. Babeldaob, the largest island, covers 153 square miles.

With the entry into force of the Compact of Free Association with the United States. Palau was the last Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands territories to gain its independence. Under the Compact, the U.S. will remain responsible for Palau’s defense for 50 years. Otherwise, Palau is a sovereign nation and conducts its own foreign relations. Since independence, Palau has established diplomatic relations with a number of nations, including many of its Pacific neighbors. Palau was admitted to the United Nations on December 15, 1994, and has since joined several other international organizations.

The Palau Arts Festival falls on July 9, Constitution Day. Palau is a country rich in tradition and culture. Today, many sites of cultural or historical importance remain intact, reminding modern Palauans of a past long ago, while reinforcing the culture and tradition for future generations.

Probably the most noticeable aspect of Palauan culture is the people’s connection with the sea. Traditionally, it was the duty of the family to go to sea to harvest fish and battle against enemy villages. As the sea was the source of their livelihood, men developed a close relationship with the waters of Palau, becoming versant in the currents and the phases of the moon and the behavior of the fish they sought to put on the table.

Palauans are a highly sociable people. Traditionally, history, lore and knowledge were passed down through the generations orally as there was no written language until the late 1800′s. Palauans still practice that traditional method, and at the end of the day, one can often find pockets of Palauans excitingly engaged in the telling of the stories of the more recent past.

Ukraine Constitution Day: June 28

Constitution Day is celebrated in the Ukraine.

President Victor Yushchenko took part in a ceremony of presentation of national decorations on the occasion of Constitution Day. “After the things we have done in terms of formation of the constitutional field, we must proceed to next important step. We must have a constitution that would forever guarantee us democracy, freedom, and protect us from the risks of a totalitarian model”, – said Victor Yushchenko speaking at the ceremony.

Constitution Day is a holiday to honor the constitution of the Ukraine. Constitution Day celebrates the anniversary of the signing or adoption of the Constitution of the Ukraine in 1996.

The president and the parliament decide on this day to enforce, reinforce, form, accept, and reject constitutional changes, along with a consented plebiscite. The people are given the sole authority to decide on the major amendments that are carried out in the parliament, confirming Ukraine as an ideal democratic nation.

Ukraine is a sovereign, secular nation with a comprehensive democratic system of constitution. The constitution of Ukraine was established on 28th June, 1996. So every year, this day – June 28th is celebrated as the ‘Constitution Day’ in Ukraine, to honor the country’s constitution, on the anniversary of signing and promulgation of the national law system and various significant amendments.

Constitution Day Traditions and Activities

Cities and towns honour Constitution Day on June 28 with performances and special events. The Constitution Day is a national holiday across the country. As it is rather new, there is nothing particular or traditional being carried out in order to celebrate it. The Hymn of Ukraine will be broadcasted on all the radios and TV channels or even sung in public gatherings by the people. Fireworks, various public concerts and musical events by popular Ukrainian artists are held across the country to commemorate this day.

Constitution Day: May 17

Constitution Day is celebrated by Norway as a public holiday.

This National day of Norway is also stated as Norwegian Independence Day which falls on May 17th. The constitution was signed on May 17th in the year 1814, declaring Norway an Independent nation.

Constitution Day History

The celebrations of Constitution Day began under Swedish rule and for some years the king was reluctant to allow any celebrations. During his rein King Carl Johan actually forbade it as he thought the celebrations were a protest against Swedish Sovereignty. The kings attitude changed after the Battle of The Square in 1829 where there was such a commotion he had no choice but to allow the Norwegian people to celebrate their Constitution.

In 1833 the official celebrations were initiated by the monument of the late politician Christian Krogh well known as having stopped the king gaining too much power over the Norwegian people. After 1864 Constitution Day became more established and the celebrations began with the first children’s parade consisting only of boys. It was much later in 1899 that girls could take part. Also by historical coincidence, the second world war ended nine days before that years Constitution Day on May 8th 1945 when occupying German forces surrended. As this is not an official holiday more emphasis has been made on Constitution Day on May 17th. This Day also focused originally on the Norwegian Constitution but after 1905 it is also geared to celebrate the Royal Family.

Constitution Day Traditions and Activities

The celebrations on this day are of a non military nature and mostly consist of children’s parades. The parades take a tour of the local community, calling in on old peoples homes, and war memorials to pay respect to Norwegian soldiers. The longest parade is in Oslo where 100,000 people travel from all over to participate in the celebrations. There are over 100 schools involved, marching bands, colourful parades with a huge emphasis on the celebrations when passing the Royal Palace where the Royal Family stand and watch. Live television broadcasts the whole event all day.

Constitution Day is observed as a public holiday in Serbia

Constitution Day is celebrated by the Republic of Serbia every 15th of February (formerly Serbia’s National Day). This is a day for the Serbians to celebrate their present constitution and a time for them to reflect on the many constitutions that the country proclaimed though their history.

History of Serbia’s Constitution Day

The Republic of Serbia is presently under a newly-adapted constitution which was passed on October 28 and 29 on the 2006 constitutional referendum in replacement of the Constitution of 1990.

The 1990 Constitution of the republic had a lot of misleading and often confusing provisions like the issues in the social property in which no one could clearly confirm if the property was owned by a private civilian or owned by the government. One of the disadvantages of the constitution is that it decreased the intensity of sovereignty of Vojvodina and Kosovo which are the country’s two main provinces. Kostunica, who was then the Prime Minister proposed a change in the constitution but implementing some of the provisions of the 1990 Charter.

The new constitution was approved by a roster of Serbian body of voters and became part of the history as the first ever constitution of Serbia as an independent state from the time of the 1903 Kingdom of Serbia constitution. And one of the most significant provisions of the foundation was putting significance into declaring Kosovo as an autonomous province of Serbia.

The official proclamation of the new constitution was held on November 8, 2006 by the National Assembly of Serbia which serves as the country’s unicameral legislature.

Serbia’s Constitution Day Traditions, Customs and Activities

Originally, Serbia’s celebration of the Constitution Day was every 27th of April. However, on 2007, the government made some changes and made February 15 as the official public holiday celebration of the republic’s Constitution.

And annually, different sectors of the government hold local events participated by the people of Serbia to look back and give honor to the establishment of the present constitution. Different activities like parades and demonstrations are being conducted to different localities nationwide.
