(SWRD) died from the gun shot wounds the very next day on September 26th. As a result of his death, his wife Sirimavo Ratwatte Dias Bandaranaike became the first female Prime Minister of Sri Lanka in 1960.

The purpose of this day is to raise awareness on the role of tourism within the international community and to demonstrate how it affects social, cultural, political and economic values worldwide.
