Valentines Day is the day about celebrating love. Love can be described as the most divine feeling, which does not require any special occasion to be expressed. However, this day also marks a lot of possible happenings in the history. It was more famous in the English speaking nations. Nowadays, the awareness and globalisation has made this Valentine Day famous even in the eastern part of the world (Asian Countries).
On this day, people exchange love messages, cards, flowers and gifts with the ones, who they love the most. It is perceived that this day is more popular amongst the teens. However, people from all age group show equal enthusiasm towards it. Although this day is meant for people in love with opposite sexes or in more appropriate word for lovers, there are some cases where they celebrate the other aspect of love and relationship too. Some individuals pay homage to the love they have for their friends, family, teachers and others.

Valentine’s Day History
The history of Valentines Day is somewhat debatable. There are many theories, which state why it falls on the 14th of February and when and why it was first celebrated around the world. One thing, which is confirmed, is that the day has got its name from St Valentines. If we look back in history of Catholic Church, then we have a handful number of saints with the name Valentine. Irrespective of that, St Valentines became the most famous one in England and France. One of the theories state that St Valentines was buried on this very day. Other one states that it is the beginning of the mating season for birds. Thus, it is a day for romance. There are other theories too amongst which one says that it is to mark and Christianize the celebrations of pagan Lupercalia festival. Lupercalia was a fertility festival dedicated to the Roman God of Agriculture.

The Valentine Day started gaining popularity in Britain around the seventeenth century. Eventually America, Canada, Australia and other countries of European Union picked up the theme and started celebrating the day. It is quite popular in west.
Valentines Day Traditions and Activities
The cards (which are filled with love and affection messages), gifts, flowers and chocolates are quite famous amongst the people, who celebrate the day with their special person. The card culture too picked up in the early ages. The oldest Valentine Card is displayed in one of the museums in Britain.
Slowly and gradually as the centuries have passed, the Asian countries also picked it up. However, there are quite a few countries where the younger generation, who are more excited about the whole idea of Valentine Day, face a lot of opposition. According to the some communities, Valentine Day faces some opposition because outward displays of affection are not condoned in their culture and society. In spite of all this opposition, people do not stop from expressing their love for the people they adore on this wonderful day.
